PROLOTHERAPY
Well-tolerated, safe, and effective for a variety of musculoskeletal disorders
What Is Prolotherapy?
Prolotherapy is an injection procedure that has been around (in its current form) for at least 70 years. It is most often a compounded solution consisting of dextrose, saline, and local anaesthetic (procaine/lidocaine) that can provide a neuromodulatory pain relieving effect in the shorter term (often 1-3 treatments) and a proliferative response over time (3-6 treatments) that encourages collagen synthesis at the treated areas that supports increased strength and durability of the injured tissue.
How Prolotherapy Injections Work
Prolotherapy injections are administered with precision into specific areas in/around joints and injured tissues.
Typically several injections are given per treatment and treatments are often spaced 2-4 weeks apart. With 13+ years of experience, Dr Atkins has seen the procedure to be typically well-tolerated, safe, and effective for a variety of musculoskeletal disorders.
Any post-treatment aggravation is usually minor, self-limited, and similar to those of other injections - such as mild pain or stiffness and localised swelling and minor bruising in the treated areas.
